Happy Friday! Hope you’ve all had a good week? Mine has been interesting… I’ve been ‘stalked’ by someone via text message (a complete stranger) and I have no idea how they got my number.
I’ve had to install an SMS blocker on my phone and since I’ve done that, thankfully the text messages have stopped. The texts weren’t threatening at all, but very strange.
You may know that I used to be a bridal make up artist? Well, these texts were just asking me lots of questions about various types of make up! I responded to a few to let this ‘person’ know that I was no longer in the bridal make up business, but still the text messages kept on coming. I now think it’s some kind of scam whereby I’d get charged a stupendous amount of money if I were to text back. Luckily I have an unlimited text message package and I can’t see any extra charges on my bill as yet. At least I hope that’s all it is! I struggle comprehending how some people can spend their time trying to scam other people (or stalk them). Madness!
Anyway, this week I’ve been busy catching up with my favourite blogs and there are so many great reads out at the moment that I decided to do a bumper blog love edition. It’s been a while since I last shared my favourite reads.
Thank you…
First of all though, I just wanted to say thank you to the following bloggers/sites for mentioning Disease Called Debt recently:
Great blog reads from around the globe
Lyle from The Joy of Simple wrote Quit Wishing and Start Doing! This is a great motivational post about actually getting off your backside to get something done if you really want to achieve something. Many people (myself included) will at times find ourselves thinking, “If only I could get enough money together to do this…” or “I really wish I could quit my job and follow my passion…” As Lyle, states “You just gotta do the work!” Lyle and I have been on the save wavelength recently as he published this post at the same time as a post I had written about achieving success called Time Won’t Wait: A Year Ago You May Wish You Had Started Today.
There was a great guest post from Even Steven Money over at Dear Debt called You Don’t Live Here Anymore. Talk about breaking up with debt. This is one of the best break up with debt letters I’ve read!
Tonya at Budget and the Beach posted an hilarious video about her top 10 tips to save money. I wish I was brave enough to get in front of the camera like she has done! You can view her video BATB TV: Tips to Save Money here.
I enjoyed this guest post by Brandy (Busted Budget) over at Megan and Eggs recently, called Five Reasons I’m Lucky to Pay off Debt. Brandy writes about the positives that she’s found from reining in her spending, such as having more free time to focus on other areas of her life. On another note, Brandy also guest posted on my site this week with her post called Are You Maximizing Your Employer’s Health and Wellness Benefits?
Shannon at the Heavy Purse wrote an awesome 2 part series on her blog this week called Essential Money Skills Every Child Needs to Learn Before Leaving Home (Part 1) and Additional Money Skills Kids Need to Learn Before Leaving Home (Part 2). Shannon explains the importance of kids understanding the purpose of money, how they should make value based decisions and understand the meaning of debt. In addition, she writes about encouraging kids to become investment curious and how they should learn the basic skills of running a household before they leave home as it will save them money in the long run. This is such important information if you have kids, so please head on over to check out her series.
I don’t know what it is about watching videos of other PF bloggers lately, but I also really enjoyed Erin’s first video over at Journey to Saving for her Being Grateful: Forty-Fifth Edition. Erin talks about the things in her life she’s grateful for in this series and I’m a big believer in positive thinking and being thankful for what you have. Erin sounds exactly like I thought she would – lovely!
Natalie at The Finance Girl wrote a great post in August called What is Intentional Living? She describes this much better than I can but intentional living is thinking ahead to how you want your life to be and making conscious decisions and choices in order to get you there. Not living impulsively for example. If you want to make some better or healthier lifestyle changes, this is a must read post.
This next post is quite old, it was published in November 2013 in fact, but I’ve only just come across it and I think it’s one of those posts that you’ll all enjoy because a story like this is timeless. This is the story of how Ricky from Skint Dad proposed to Skint Mum (and by the way, they are getting married in December this year)! Being the romantic that I am, I loved this so much! Ricky, if you’re reading this, congratulations to you and your soon-to-be wife. 🙂
There was a great post over at My Money Design about how to calculate the minimum amount of money you need to retire comfortably on. I can safely say that the hubby and I are a long way off from our goal and this post will definitely help us to work out how much we need to save for our retirement pot. Read more at What is the Minimum Retirement Savings You Could Comfortably Live On?
Pauline at Make Money Your Way posted her September 2014 Blog Income and Stats Recap. I’m always intrigued to look at income reports and blog stats and Pauline always inspires me with how well she’s doing with her blogs.
My good blogger friend Laurie at The Frugal Farmer was kind enough to take some time to write a review about my eBook “Achieving Debt Freedom” which was launched back in July. Not only that, but it was a really great review, so I’d love you to check it out!
This brings me nicely onto something else quite exciting… on Monday, I will be launching my second eBook here on this blog! So please make sure to check back on Monday so that you can read all about it!
Have a great weekend all!

Congrats on the second ebook, Hayley! I’m a little behind on my reading, because I’ve been trying to fit in reading everyone’s blogs. 😉

That’s always kind of an eerie feeling when you’re getting weird stuff via email or phone. You feel just a tiny bit violated. eek! Thank you so much for mentioning my video!!

Thanks for the mentioning my series, Hayley! I really appreciate your support. Scary on the text messages and I’m glad you were able to block them. It boggles my mind the way people try to scam others. Excited to learn more about your new e-book!

How weird that you’ve been stalked via text message from an unknown sender… That is super weird!
Kayla @ Shoeaholicnomore recently posted…Paleo Challenge Update
Thank you for the kind words and the mention! When I switched over to Republic Wireless, my phone started blowing up with texts from random people. I still get calls every so often for someone named Maurice. It was ridiculous, and I also had to install a blocker app. It is really strange how these things happen!
Erin @ Journey to Saving recently posted…Being Grateful: Forty-Sixth (Anniversary) Edition
Thanks Hayley for featuring my post! I’m a little late to the table and just noticed the mention now.
It’s also great to be in good company with the other bloggers you featured 🙂
Thanks again and take care. My best to all.
