Disease called Debt

A blog about getting out of debt

How to Sell Well on eBay

When it comes to eBay, there are plenty of reasons that people use it. People sell stuff because they no longer need it, whilst others might just want a bit of extra cash. If you’re running a little low on cash, you could check out GoBear.com to see if you could get a loan to help tide you over, or you could try to make a little extra money on the side by selling some of your old belongings on eBay. eBay is great if you have a surplus of goods too, for example if you’ve been given two sets of headphones for Christmas. However, eBay isn’t as straight forward as it seems so there are certain things you need to make sure you do in order to make your efforts worthwhile.

The Price

Before you begin creating your listing you need to think carefully about whether or not your product is going to make money. If it has a low value, it might cost you more to list and post than the price it will sell for. The product may also be unsellable so listing it will end up costing you money rather you making any money from it. The product ideally needs to be like new if not brand new, and if it is a designer make you need to be able to prove its authenticity if you’re expecting it to sell for a price that reflects it.

Make sure anything that can be cleaned has been cleaned too, as this will show that it has been looked after and is in good condition; making it a more attractive purchase. Have a low starting bid to attract interest however, too low and people will expect the product to be faulty. Think carefully about the timing of your auction too; ideally, you’d like it to end at a time when people are most likely to be able to bid, so on a Sunday afternoon for example.

The Product

It’s no use having a great product if you’re not going to put the time and effort into reflecting it as such. Having good photos is an essential part of any successful listing; they need to be good quality and they need to show as many features of the product as possible. The title you create for your product will play a big role in how easily it can be found by the eBay search engine, so make sure it includes key points such as ‘Size 16, top quality, long sleeve black dress’. The product description is also incredibly important; it needs to be informative and well written, and it can be a good idea to give an explanation as to why you are selling it, so that people know that you’re not selling it because it is faulty.

The Profile

Your reputation on eBay can make all the difference between being a big seller or a flop. Potential buyers will always take your reputation into consideration before placing a bet on one of your products. Buyers are able to give you a rating after each purchase, relating to how reliable you are, and the best way to keep your ratings high is to stick to a few key rules. Always be quick off the mark when it comes to posting items out and always make sure they are well packaged. Be honest in your descriptions; if there are any faults, list them. Respond to messages, and a little tip for your own benefit is to always get proof of postage so that if it goes missing you can always prove that you sent it.

eBay is a great source of additional income if you approach it in a proactive way. Only sell valuable products, make sure you create attractive listings, and keep your standard of service high so you don’t damage your reputation.
