Welcome to this week’s Friday’s Fab Links feature – my regular personal finance blog roundup post. What’s your week been like so far? Mine has been good!
I’ve been busy trying to get ahead in my blog posting schedule by writing some extra posts for this site in advance. My daughter will be breaking up from nursery for the summer holidays in just a couple of weeks time – and she’ll be at home with me for six whole weeks from then! I really do think kids have way too many school holidays. 😉
Of course, I’ll love having her at home more often, but it goes without saying that I won’t be able to do as much work as usual during that time. I do thank my lucky stars though that I work from home and I’m self employed so that I can juggle things around my daughter.
It often amazes me how parents manage over the school holidays if both parents work at corporate jobs. I know quite a few parents who have to take holidays separately so they can cover childcare over the school holidays. Even then, they have to pay out for childcare for the weeks they can’t cover. That must be tricky to juggle and expensive. Anyway, back to the main feature!
Here are my recommended personal finance blog reads from this week:
I was asked to take part in a great feature by Cash Cow Couple about what financial independence means to me and it was published this week! You can read my answers and the views of 18 others here – 19 Experts Chatting About Financial Independence.
Graham over at Moneystepper wrote an interesting post called Emergency Fund if in Debt with a Good Credit Score. Whenever I read Graham’s posts I’m always impressed by his mathematical calculations and this post is no exception. In the PF world, building up an emergency fund is generally viewed as the ‘done’ thing and in this post Graham explains his own theory on what you should do about emergency funds if you have debt and a good credit score too.
Michelle from Making Sense of Cents published a really informative post called Ways to Make Pennies, Hundreds or Thousands a Month by Blogging. In case you didn’t already know, Michelle makes thousands of dollars a month from her freelance efforts including her blogs. She is my absolute inspiration, because obviously making extra money is quite high up on my list of priorities – I do have debts to pay after all. Anyway, in this post Michelle explains how money can be made from blogging so it’s well worth a read! She has a great new blog design by the way.
Kim from Eyes on the Dollar wrote Paying Off Debt is Easy. Kim explains that debt is just a matter of numbers, yet so many people still are battling with debt. She outlines a number of reasons as to why that could be.
I must have ‘making money from blogs’ on the brain at the moment because I was drawn to this post by Grayson from Sprout Wealth – Want to Make Money Blogging? Here is the Honest Truth! I totally agree with Grayson when he says that blogging is a lot of hard work. Luckily for me, blogging is something I really enjoy! But I can see how many bloggers give up after a short space of time, especially if there’s no money to be seen in those early days.
There has been an increase in the number of businesses marketing diamonds as investments. If you are thinking of growing your wealth from a diamond investment, you need to read this article published by Paul from Beyond4cs. Find out why diamonds might not turn out to be the ideal investment.
Hope you enjoy the above reads and if you haven’t already, please like my Facebook Page! Have a great weekend.
By subscribing, you'll receive new blog updates by email and occasionally I might email you with any exciting news. I promise not to spam you and your details will never be passed on.

Hey Hayley and thanks for the great set of links 🙂
I’m glad that you will be spending more time with your little one! It’s moments like those when you realize that while you might feel your sacrificing a bit to get your family out of debt, if you weren’t doing what you do, you would end up sacrificing time with your daughter! And that would not be a good thing at all!
Take care Hayley and my bet to all. Have a smashing weekend 🙂

When my daughter was two years old and I was working during that time, I can say that it was really hard. Every time I need to go out to go to work, I almost can’t leave our house because it’s too hard for me to go to work.

Great links, Hayley! Would you believe I started looking at this post almost an hour ago! Still working on getting some of my growing pains in setting up my self-hosted blog. This morning I installed broken link checker. It’s all good but takes time and unfortunately delays me from making my blog rounds.
