It’s been a while since I last updated the blog. It’s not that we’ve lost focus (honest), just that sometimes life gets in the way I guess.
Anyway, I remembered about the money making challenge that I set for us back in March and…..we did it! We made an extra £200! Which has gone into the emergency fund which now stands at £500 so that’s great.
In addition to this, we’ve also managed to work on our debt ladder and overpay some debts during this time too – see my debt total update post.
But for now, an update on how we made the £200 we were aiming for. We tried online surveys and competitions first of all. The survey situation became tedious very quickly and to be honest I think we earned about 10p in total before we gave up. I personally entered 110 competitions and haven’t won a bean so far! (And unfortunately have received lots of sales calls from various companies trying to sell me stuff).
The way we achieved our target was to dig through all our belongings (again) and get it on Ebay. It took lots of time and I was pretty fed up with boxing up old clothes that only went for a couple of pounds here and there. And then we had to ship everything off to the post office! But the occasional item went for more money than we expected so the total amount we raised from Ebay was £83. Brilliant!
I managed to earn some more money by doing a couple of babysitting jobs for a friend (this took the total up to £113.) And the rest, we clawed together through saving some money that month – we had a rebate come through from our electricity provider. Bonus!
All in all, we managed to get hold of just over £200 extra and we put it straight in our emergency fund, which is still intact amazingly.
Have you had any success with money making challenges? I’d love to hear from you.
