We all have something valuable hiding away in the kitchen cupboards or under the bed. Most of the time we wouldn’t even have thought about whether or not these items would be valuable. You’re only going to know you’ve got a hidden gem in your home if you go looking for it.
But what should you really be looking for? Everything potentially has a price, but what is going to fetch you the most? We’ve compiled a little list for your convenience below. If you find something from it in your home, pop it on the market – there are high paying collectors out there who could be waiting for an item just like yours!

Got a Jar of Change Somewhere?
You might think of coin collecting as a vintage pastime, but coin collections are coming back into fashion, and many people are making a good profit for themselves by keeping an eye out for rare mints. If you’ve got a jar of spare coins you’ve been continually topping up for the past 10 or so years, empty it out and see what’s in there.
Old and rare coins can be worth a lot of money, based on factors like how many were produced and what condition the coin itself is in. Even if the coins you find are nothing like the ones on this list, they could still be worth 5 to 10 times their actual value.
Check That Pile of Board Games in the Cupboard
Did you know that some board games are quite rare? And not just the board games, but the boxes they’re packaged in too. If you have a rather extensive games collection and you haven’t checked it out in a while, open up the cupboard and let’s take a proper inventory.
The older the board game in question, the more likely it is to be valuable. People want to know what their favourite games looked and played like back in the day, and some people can pay hundreds just for the privilege.
Did a Relative Collect Stamps?
You might not think so, but stamp collections can be worth thousands, with some stamps being worth the same amount of money just on their own! So think about it; did an older relative pass away and leave behind a bunch of stamp books?
If you have no other use for them, now’s the time to take them along to a stamp auction. You could fetch upwards of £1000 if you’ve got some rare postal entries on hand, and one stamp was even sold for over £6 million a couple of years ago! Of course, you should never bet on your stamp collection being worth that much, but you could still rake in a good amount of spare cash.
Have You Inherited Any Jewellery?
Jewellery is a pretty obvious entry on this list, and it’s also the most likely thing you are to have in the house. These two factors make jewellery a great thing to sell when you want to generate a bit of income on the side.
The best thing to do is sort through your jewellery box, or the jewellery you inherited from a relative, and see what pieces stand out. Check for hallmarks to prove authenticity, and then take the pieces along to a professional to test. If it turns out you’re working with gold (sometimes literally), you could even test and sell all in the same place.
Check Those Lego Buildings
We all love a bit of Lego! For some people, that love runs very deep. If you’ve got some old sets in your house that you know aren’t made anymore, think about looking up what they’re selling for right now.
Some Lego sets can be worth thousands, especially if you keep yours in good condition through dusting and wiping on a regular basis. However, don’t worry too much here. Lego is incredibly durable and lasts a long time, so even the ‘bad condition’ sets have good life left in them.
If you’ve got something valuable in your house, be on the lookout for it! Items like stamps and out of production Lego sets can go for a fortune to the right person. Make sure you check the attic as well, if you’ve got one, for any long forgotten vintage items that could be worth thousands. Selling them at the right time could make that summer vacation all the more affordable!
