As most of my readers will know, I’m all for giving to charity and I know a lot of my readership also regularly donate to various UK charities also. In fact, charitable donations is something that my friends and I frequently discuss and I know there has been a lot of talk of it in the comment sections of my blog too. It’s a subject we feel passionate about and for the most part we want to help where we can.
One thing I think everyone would agree on however is that there needs to be more transparency. We’ve all heard the stories of the big charities lining the pockets of their directors and staff in general before passing on the much needed funding to the charities they’re supposed to be supporting. This of course is nothing new and whilst people do obviously need to be paid there needs to be more transparency as to what your hard earned money specifically pays for. I’m sure people would be shocked to see just how much the cause you’re actually donating to actually receives in their pockets.
Millennials – The Giving Generation
I feel this needs to be addressed as myself and a lot of my readership are millennials and it’s been shown that millennials in general (people aged 18 – 34) are nearly twice as likely to donate to charities than those 55 or above (82% to 42%) which is why I feel that it’s our generation that needs to do something about this. We’re the most willing to give generation in years, but we’re not stupid either. We know how the world works and whilst we are willing to donate we’re also skeptical and do question where our money ends up. This is why, for the most part, Millennials are opting to shun traditional charities of the donate £X a month nature to fund more direct causes via various online fundraising platforms, including recently launched Leetchi.com in the UK . We feel that our money actually has an effect, that we’re more connected to the cause and most importantly we can see specifically who our money is going to and we know for sure that they’re receiving 100% of it.
It’s Not Just About Charities
It’s not just charities we have to give to either. How many times have you been asked to chip in to fund a leaving do, a stag party, a baby shower? There are lots of things we’re asked to contribute to week in week out and for the person managing this is can be a bit of a challenge. It can also be a bit awkward being put on the spot in your office when asked to contribute to someones leaving party! Leetchi.com can also come in handy here!
Introducing Leetchi
Of course not all donations are to the major causes and their respective charities. Sometimes we just want to help people out and sometimes we just want to pool our money together in order to do something for someone we know. This is where Leetchi.com comes in. In short, it’s a virtual money pot that you, your friends or the general public can chip into in order to fund something specific / reach a specific target.
Common uses include –
Birthdays – If you want to collectively fund a birthday group gift with your friends, you can all chip in to your online money pot and pool your money together to pay for the event.
Charitable Causes – If there is something you’d like to do for someone or a specific amount you’d like to raise for a given organisation then you can use Leetchi.com for your charity fundraising and pool the money together with others and donate it directly to the charitable cause or nonprofit organisation.
Memorials – Unexpected costs often arise with the loss of a loved one. Using an online money pot between friends and family can be a great way to generate funds to cover the memorial costs.
Community Projects – Raising money for community projects can often be a challenge but using a service like Leetchi makes it easy. You can create your money pot and have all donators contribute funds easily.
Leaving Party – Stuff like this is often a bit awkward to collect for and putting people on the spot to contribute often leads to not much being raised in the way of funding. An online money pot allows people to donate what they like when they find it convenient.
Animals – There are lots of animal charities out there but as I said above you can’t be sure where your money is really going. By doing your own collecting and pooling donations you can specifically choose shelters/kennels etc to donate to who are local and important to you.
These are just some of the uses. In reality, anything you want to collect money for, charities, parties, whatever cause you like effectively you can use Leetchi.
