Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so I thought I’d share some great ideas I’ve found to celebrate this occasion without the need to spend too much money!
In the past, both my husband and I have fallen into the Valentine’s Day expense trap several times. Probably the worst spending offences we’ve committed for Valentine’s Day has been booking a meal on Valentine’s Day itself (so much more expensive then booking a few days before or after Valentine’s). And we used to buy gifts for each other that were not only very commercialised (and cheesy) but pretty overpriced too.
In recent years, my husband and I have only gotten each other cards because we finally woke up to the fact that we had previously been wasting so much money on this annual celebration. This year however, I want to surprise my husband with a thoughtful gift – one where I definitely won’t need to feel guilty about the cost.
To find inspiration, I went to my one stop source – Pinterest of course. These are some of my favourite pins that I’ve come across for showing someone that you care about them this Valentine’s Day.
Frugal DIY gift ideas for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Jenga Game
Jenga is usually a cheap enough game to buy – you can get it on Amazon for cheap as chips(affiliate link). Then, simply write some appreciate messages onto each block.
Loving Deck of Cards
Ok, so this is a time consuming idea, but the finished item will definitely prove to be a great keepsake! Simply write out 52 messages for your loved on onto slips on paper and stick them onto one side of a deck of cards. After punching holes in them, you can use ring binders to keep them together (or just use string or ribbon).
Fruity Messages
This has to be one of the cheapest Valentine’s DIY gifts ever – yet it could really brighten up your special someone’s day!
Valentine’s Day Breakfast Sandwich
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to receive this scrummy-looking breakfast on Valentine’s Day morning!
Love Song Decor
This is such a great idea for anyone who has a special song. This is the one I’m going to try to make for my husband. I’ll choose our “first dance” song that we had at our wedding for this. There is a free template provided where you can insert the lyrics to your song, then cut it out and create your own sentimental wall art.

I love these! I’m too lazy to bother with them, but I’m sure you’ll help people with a single romantic bone in their bodies.
We’re going to go to see the Deadpool movie (with passes!). I’m sure there’ll be plenty of blood to do the red theme.
That fruity message is really sweet and cute! I should try that one this Valentine’s day!
That fruity idea is perfect! Very easy to do and cheap. I would totally make one for my wife.
That’s awesome. I’m totally going to nab that banana idea as we always have them in the house.
